Session 1 – Understanding Marketing and Marketing Strategy

What marketing is, and how marketing strategy is designed. Having a better understanding will help you make better choices, and ultimately help you reach the goals you have set for your business.
To kick off what will ultimately be a series called, “The Fundamentals of Online Marketing”, where I interview one of the worlds leading experts on the subject of online marketing, Ammon Johns ( http://goo.gl/V9c0xS ), I will be asking Ammon to help us better understand what marketing actually is, and why designing a marketing strategy should come before you select your tactics.
I decided to create this series to help combat some of the misinformation that leads to so much misunderstanding. I see too many small business say they don’t need marketing because they don’t really understand what marketing is.
On the flip side, I see way too many businesses jump head first into marketing tactics before they have carefully defined what their actual strategy is. What happens is the business doesn’t grow, and a lot of the owners time and money is wasted.
